Mountains and Lacunae

Sarah Cullen and Simon Pope
Wednesday December 15, 2009
8 pm – 10pm

This new participatory work at 47 continues partners Sarah Cullen & Simon Pope's exploration of mountain landscapes, recalled from memory and reimagined through dialogue. For Mountains and Lacunæ, Cullen & Pope invite you to bring memories of mountains - peaks, valleys, lakes, and forests  - into the gallery. Once gathered, guests share their memories with others, talking to each other informally, describing as best they can the mountain scenes that they have conveyed with them, filling the gallery with vast mountain vistas, rendered in speech, embellished through dialogue.

Sarah Cullen is an artist currently living and working in London UK. She recently completed a masters in Geography for which she was exploring models of collaboration between artists and geographers. Sarah graduated from OCAD in 2005 and has since participated in shows nationally and internationally. Sarah enjoys knitting by the fireside.

Simon Pope lives and works in London. Recent solo-exhibitions include Carved From Memory at Spacex, Exeter (2009) and Memory Marathon (2009), produced by Film & Video Umbrella and commissioned by ODA, ACE and the LDA. He represented Wales at the Venice Biennale of Fine Art (2003). He is Reader in Fine Art and Programme Director of the MFA programme at Cardiff School of Art & Design.
